MARKING A MILESTONE
IN THE UNITED STATES
MARKET
In 2018, AVL was awarded several contracts to provide all relevant testing
software and hardware for light-duty and heavy-duty vehicle, engine
and powertrain testing at the California Air Resources Board’s (CARB)
new vehicle emissions testing and research laboratory in Riverside, California.
Set to open in Spring 2021, the $ 368 million laboratory, designed
and constructed by Hensel Phelps, AEI and ZGF, will be the largest netzero
energy structure of its kind in the United States.
This revolutionary project is a bold step in California’s journey toward
CARB’s 2030 vision: a future with improved air quality and fewer harmful
emissions. To make this future possible, AVL will deliver 13 chassis
dynamometers, five engine dynamometers, more than 90 emission measurement
devices and systems, and a variety of control, simulation, and
data acquisition tools to CARB’s new facility.
“A project of this scale and pace relies on AVL’s global support,” said Kyle
Kimel, President of AVL Test Systems, Inc. “We’ll work with AVL experts
around the world to ensure all of CARB’s needs are met.”
In addition to providing advanced
hardware, AVL will futureproof
the facility by providing a seamless
lab operating system. This configurable
software will allow CARB to
quickly create and run tests as well
as monitor and control its systems
remotely.
“We’re honored to be chosen as the
integrated solution to help CARB
achieve its 2030 vision and bring
this lab to fruition,” commented
Kimel. “Developing clean, efficient
propulsion technology is the
driving force behind everything
we do.”
AVL will provide integrated testing solutions
for CARB’s new Southern California headquarters.
AS THE WORLD’S LEADING TECHNOLOGY
COMPANY IN THE FIELD OF POWERTRAIN
SYSTEMS, AVL WILL MAKE A SIGNIFICANT
CONTRIBUTION TO HELPING CARB
REALIZE ITS VISION AND TO SUPPORT
THIS GREAT INSTITUTION.
