“All this gives you powerful information, and we have complete solutions
that can make the most of this,” says Vitale. “Once we have done that, we
can reproduce the real-world driving scenarios on the testbed or in the
simulation. This in turn leads to a further reduction of in-vehicle testing
requirements. But we can then go even further.”
A MATURE, ROBUST VISION OF THE FUTURE
Based on the thousands of hours of simulated and testbed scenarios, which
were informed by the real-world driving tasks, more real-world tasks can
be assigned to the connected test fleet to further enrich the data pool. These
constant loops of information backwards and forwards between the simulated
and the real-world test environments result in data that is incredibly
robust and mature. Yet the process is simple, the complexity is managed
elegantly, and the customer experience is much improved.
“We have learned that at AVL we have a fantastic technology stack and
decades of experience, but we really wanted to put the customer experience
first, and that’s what we’re doing with these apps,” explains Vitale.
“We already have OEMs actively using the system and the feedback is
always positive and encouraging.
