‹Focus›: What are the big challenges you see our customers facing in
this transformative period?
‹Poggenburg›: The major targets for our customers are shorter time-tomarket,
increased flexibility of applications, and reduced cost of ownership,
as well as drastically higher effectiveness in their development and
Testing effort is growing with the need for real-world testing (RDE), and
the still-increasing variety of powertrains. Furthermore, there is the additional
need for us to support our customers in at least four key powertrain
configurations – battery electric, hybrid, fuel cell, ICE – all of which are
being developed in parallel.
With all of this going on, it is the responsibility of AVL to remain a strong
partner for the industry and our customers in this rapidly changing world.
I have a lot of respect for the role that I have undertaken. In terms of developing

‹Focus›: Prior to your new position, you were Director of Customer
Services across Europe, and then globally. What will you be bringing
with you from these previous roles into your new position as Executive
Vice President?
‹Poggenburg›: In Customer Services we introduced the principle of commitments.
This is, in general, more important to our customers than the
throughput time of a case, for example, because they want to know that
we are committed to tackling their issue – and that we stick to it. This
mindset is something I definitely want to strengthen in the organisation.
