‘NEW CHALLENGES CALL FOR
NEW IDEAS.’ THIS SLOGAN
OF THE FIRST DIGITAL TREND
CONFERENCE IS THE CORE
REASON WHY WE DECIDED
TO OFFER THIS NEW FORMAT.
THE RESPONSE OF THE COMMUNITY
IS VERY POSITIVE.
THE ATTENDEE NUMBERS
STATE IT CLEARLY: ENGINE
& ENVIRONMENT REMAINS
A FIXED DATE IN THE AUTOMOTIVE
EVENT CALENDAR
AND AVL WAS ABLE TO GO
DOWN NEW PATHS BY USING
THIS NEW FORMAT.

Via the virtual showroom, speeches (as “sessions”) were available throughout
the conference. Thus, one could listen to the high-level expert presentations
by many highly acclaimed speakers, among them Philippe Hamon,
CTO Valeo Siemens eAutomotive (“The Heart of Electric Vehicles”),
Ingo Scholten, Vice President Geely PT (“Electrified Propulsion Strategy –
Geely’s Path to Zero Impact Emissions”) and Dirk Becker, Head of
Design & Fuel Cell AVL List GmbH (“Synthetic Diesel Production – A
Sector Coupling Approach for Decarbonizing Future Mobility”). Thanks
to the uncomplicated commentary function, it has never been easier to discuss
industry trends and challenges with the global community and experts.
A DIFFERENT KIND OF EVENT
The highlight of the conference – the virtually transmitted panel discussion
– concluded with a debate on the most relevant and exciting questions
that came up in the sessions over the course of the week. Friends of the
annual exhibition also got their share of excitement thanks to the Virtual
Expo: information on AVL products and solutions was available throughout
the showroom, arranged by topic – a virtual expo tour with specially
produced videos, and visitors did not even have to leave their desks for it.
Art and culture have always played a major role at Engine & Environment.
Traditionally, there has always been a cultural side event organized. This
tradition was not broken with digitally by any means: In the video project
“FRONT ROW SEAT,” the Foundation offered new insights into the
work of artists and helped to make their voices accessible in new ways
and to a larger audience.
GREAT POTENTIAL
A digitalized conference has several advantages; the biggest one is the
independence concerning event planning. Online, any number of users can
participate from anywhere in the world without being tied to a venue that
is limited to its premises. Digitally, the only limitation is the technology
used (e.g. to avoid network overload). Participating in a conference is therefore
easier than ever before! The outstanding success of the Digital Engine
& Environment Conference clearly shows that this type of event not only
covers the whole world, but also unites the automotive development community
through the power of innovation.
AVL’s decision to hold the conference digitally was received with great enthusiasm.
“The attendance numbers state clearly, that Engine & Environment
remains a fixed date in the automotive event calendar,” said Fischer. By the
start of the event, more than 3,100 registrations from 67 countries had been
submitted (see info box for more details).
