SYSTEM DESIGN, CALIBRATION AND
TESTING SERVICES
AVL system design follows robust automotive processes according to
ISO 26262 standards. It includes activities such as the definition of use
cases, test cases, hazard and risk analysis, worst case scenario analysis,
functional safety, SOTIF, traceability concepts, sensor specifications and
KPI target setting.
Thanks to our global footprint we also understand market-specific requirements
and how to address them. For example, the behavior of adaptive
cruise control when another vehicle cuts closely in front, which is a common
scenario in countries with dense traffic such as India or China. However,
environment perception and vehicle behavior must fulfill very different
requirements in countries where these maneuvers seldom happen. This type
of consideration must occur early in development, in the system design phase,
and our KPI-based target definition approach offers an optimal solution.
We also have the knowledge, experience and tools to perform target verification
once ADAS features have been implemented. While KPI-based
verification can be performed on the test track, the validation of new features
must be done under real-world conditions. With the monitoring of
a whole ADAS fleet, equipped with AVL-DRIVE™ Autonomous, we
deliver a solution to this challenge.
Our end-to-end functional and performance
testing, calibration and
optimization services take place
at every development phase. This
covers testing in the lab (SiL, MiL,
HiL), on the test track, and realworld
testing on public roads.
“It’s this work that AVL can undertake
on behalf of OEMs, helping
to design functional and safe
ADAS and AD systems that improve
the driver experience,” explains
Ramschak. “We can design
entirely new systems, defining targets,
KPIs, and everything else that
is needed to develop an operational
ADAS or AD system. Furthermore,
we can take over turnkey SOP
responsibility for the reapplication
of ADAS features into derivatives
and variants, including worldwide
market specificities.”
TAILORED SOFTWARE
AND CONTROLS
DEVELOPMENT
As ADAS/AD systems become
more advanced, their development
increases in complexity and traditional
software development methods
quickly go out-of-date. However,
it is vital that our customers
can tackle this complexity and development
effort without being left
behind.
“At the high end of automation,
one of the challenges our customers
face is system complexity,” says
Ramschak. “We are already working
on solutions for this, including
the larger challenges of validation.”
AVL is leading the way in creating
ADAS and AD solutions for all kinds
of applications.
