LEADING THE WAY TO
GREENER ROADS
A three-year AVL-led project shaping the next generation of Natural
Gas engines for heavy-duty applications has come to an end, once more
showing that we are industry-leading experts in the area of green automotive
technologies.
The EU-wide HDGAS program was established as an effort to reduce greenhouse
gas emissions from the commercial vehicle sector across Europe.
It received funding from the Horizon 2020 program which supports technological
innovation to secure Europe’s global competitiveness.

Creating a clean vision for Europe’s
commercial vehicle sector.
As program coordinator for HDGAS, which sought to develop and integrate
new clean technologies into the next generation of heavy duty vehicles,
we worked with industry leaders and OEMs from 9 countries across the
continent. This included Volvo, Daimler, Iveco and Bosch, to name just
some of the twenty partners involved.
While electrified options such as hybrid, battery and fuel-cell technologies
may hold a great deal of potential in the long term, they are not yet suitable
for commercial vehicle applications in the shorter term due to their limited
