With the transformation of the automotive sector away
from combustion power and CO2 emissions, noise and
vibration are moving audibly and tangibly to the fore-front
of vehicle development. The fully electrified and
autonomous driving car of the future is creating mar-ket
trends that bring new challenges and opportunities.
NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) and driving comfort
are in focus like never before. This means, for example,
that the entire drivetrain will become quieter, but it will
deliver a more annoying electric sound character, and it
will make wind and rolling noise, among other things,
more perceptible. Lightweight housings, which are opti-mized
for range efficiency, transmit noise and vibration
much more easily and push the structural rigidity of the
vehicle to its limits. With the elimination of motor feed-back
during acceleration and braking, new ways must be
found to restore the driving experience without being too
disorienting or disruptive.
With our NVH test systems, at AVL we support all Unit
Under Test (UUT) variants, from e-motor and e-axle to
the complete vehicle, in order to create development en-vironments
that can solve the aforementioned challenges
quickly, efficiently and sustainably. Just as in vehicle de-velopment
itself, NVH test systems offer a range of so-lutions
depending on the priorities of the main features,
which can be summarized in the following three main ar-eas
across all UUTs. As a respective product example, we
choose the AVL E-Motor TS™ NVH testbed solution.
EFFICIENCY
Efficiency is a major consideration
when transforming existing test-beds.

with existing NVH chambers and/
or component testbeds, we have
created a highly efficient product
line designed to offer convenient
conversion and the best compro-mise
between power and NVH
performance.
PRECISION
The second focus area is precision.
This refers to the exact alignment
of the testbed with regards to full
compliance to current NVH stan-dards,
such as ISO 3745. NVH per-formance
is maximized here as long
as you do not stand in the way of
the first goal.
PREMIUM
Our premium solution represents
a high-end setup. The main focus
is to develop ultra-silent e-mo-tors
with an acceptable trade off in
terms of the testing environment.
