AVL RACETECH and Virtuosi Racing are expanding their long-standing cooperation at the start of the 2022 FIA Formula 2 Championship. The motorsport specialists at AVL, the leading company for development, simulation, testing and manufacturing in the automotive sector, will now support the successful British racing team as official technical partner. The collaboration centers on using sophisticated simulation models to optimize the set-ups of the Virtuosi Racing Formula 2 cars. The expanded partnership will also be outwardly visible: The new AVL RACETECH logo will feature on the nose and sidepods of the Virtuosi Racing car.

AVL RACETECH and British Formula 2 team Virtuosi have been cooperating closely in the field of driving dynamics simulation since back in 2016. As a development service provider with extensive expertise in all the top motorsport series, the Austrian company has played an important role in the success of the British racing team in recent years. The partnership sees Virtuosi Racing benefit from the innovative simulation models of AVL RACETECH. Linking real data with virtual methods makes it possible to identify all the intricacies and set-up parameters, and to adapt them accordingly. AVL RACETECH will use its know-how to support the team, in order to constantly develop their simulation models together.

Based in Attleborough, Norfolk, the Virtuosi team can point to a long list of accomplishments since its formation. The Brits have been competing in the FIA Formula 2 Championship, in which future Formula 1 stars learn their trade, since 2014 – initially as an operational team in the background, then under its own name from 2019. Since then, Virtuosi has won the Team title on one occasion and finished runner-up in the Team competition three years in a row. The team lines up with two new drivers in 2022: 19-year old Jack Doohan, the son of five-time motorcycle world champion Mick Doohan and runner-up in the Australian FIA Formula 3 series, will contest his first full season in Formula 2. The second car will be driven by 22-year-old Marino Satō. The 2019 Japanese Euroformula champion can already call on two years of Formula 2 experience. The season gets underway this weekend (03.19/20) at Bahrain International Circuit and consists of a total of 13 race weekends. All the events will be held on the support program for the Formula 1 World Championship. The finale takes place on November 19/20 at Yas Marina Circuit.

Ellen Lohr, Director Motorsport AVL: "We are delighted to be intensifying our partnership with Virtuosi Racing. The team is working very professionally to achieve success and has great confidence in our solutions. The success of recent years backs this up. It is fantastic that AVL RACETECH will now appear outwardly at the side of Virtuosi Racing."

Andy Roche, team principal Virtuosi Racing: "Over the years, a deep mutual trust and understanding has developed in our cooperation with AVL, and this is necessary in the battle for race wins and championships. That is our goal again for this year’s FIA Formula 2 Championship. We are pleased to now have AVL RACETECH at our side as an official partner."

About VIRTUOSI RACING

Based in Attleborough, Norfolk, the team has built up a long list of accomplishments since its inception, initially in Auto GP, before later branching out into the GP2 Series, where Formula 1 stars of the future learn their trade. Virtuosi took over the running of the Russian Time team in 2014, with which it won the FIA Formula 2 (formally GP2) teams’ championship in 2017, before taking the squad in-house and forming UNI-Virtuosi Racing for the start of the 2019 season. UNI-Virtuosi Racing finished second in the F2 teams' championship in the 2019, 2020 and 2021 seasons.

For the 2022 season, a rebranded Virtuosi Racing will both continue its successful run in FIA Formula 2, and also expand into the FIA British Formula 4 Championship.
