Given their complementary skills, the partnership between AVL and Batemo helps consolidate battery modelling competence in the industry. Now, customers can be guided in design, function and system development, battery testing and fleet operation.

The electrification of the powertrain is developing at an increasingly fast pace, and all OEMs are constantly expanding their product range towards e-mobility. The pressure to develop to safe but cost-effective solutions is high. The goal is to accelerate market launches while improving the performance of electrified powertrains. At the same time, the automotive industry is facing major challenges in the field of electric battery mobility related to battery ageing, fast charging and operational safety.

To address these challenges, AVL decided to enter into a cooperation to leverage complementary competencies and integrate Batemo's unique modelling and simulation technology into the AVL simulation world. Implementing this technology in the system simulation solution AVL CRUISE™ M will be the first step. It includes a large library of different cell models (cylindrical, pouch, prismatic), detailed cell reports and comprehensive measurement data. The partnership thus strengthens AVL's competences at the modular, packaging and automotive levels.

Dr Roland Wanker, Vice President of AVL Advanced Simulation Technologies, sees this as an important step in the simulation-based approach to battery development: “The key to developing battery systems is continuous simulation-supported development processes. With AVL's proven system simulation environment complemented by physically parameterized and validated Batemo cell models, we provide our customers with an ideal development tool for solving their current and future challenges in the battery development.”

With this joint solution, developers of battery electric vehicles, even those without corresponding expertise in cell chemistry, can create innovative solutions without sacrificing accuracy or speed.

Dr.-Ing. Jan Richter, Managing Director of Batemo GmbH, also sees the cooperation as a great advantage for manufacturers of battery electric vehicles: “The cell technology of the batteries used in vehicles is developing very rapidly. As a result, system development has to constantly respond to new conditions. Our integrated solution supports agile action, identifies optimal solutions and assists in the rapid validation of design and functional changes, shortening the time needed for market readiness.”
