AVL Italia Green Camp 2024: Closing Ceremony Today

  • News

Today, the closing ceremony of AVL Green Camp 2024 took place at our Technical Center, with certificates being awarded to the participants. The program, organized by AVL Italia in collaboration with the Municipality of Cavriago and the Comprehensive Institute G. Dossetti, aims to engage middle school students in sustainable technology projects.

In its fourth edition this year, AVL Green Camp focuses on introducing young learners to STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), allowing them to explore and cultivate an interest in technology and science. Each year, a sustainability-related topic is selected, followed by theoretical sessions and practical lab activities where students apply the concepts they’ve learned. This year’s central theme was energy efficiency and energy digitalization.

The initial phase of the program involved all second-grade classes from the institute, participating in two theoretical sessions held in April. One session took place at AVL Italia’s Technical Center, and the other occurred in the Cavriago town hall. During these sessions, students learned about different energy sources and their environmental impact, explored energy efficiency concepts and their contribution to sustainability, familiarized themselves with energy digitalization, and delved into the role of machine learning. Additionally, they explored community energy topics and energy exchange with the grid, all presented by AVL experts. The goal was to provide the students with a comprehensive and stimulating understanding of sustainability opportunities and challenges.

The second phase of the project involved a select group of students participating in the AVL Green Camp Week from July 1 - 5. During this week, students engaged in exercises related to electricity generation through solar energy. They learned to use programming languages and analyzed energy consumption of various devices using an electrical panel connected to a digital platform. The week’s program included activities centered around a panel already set up by AVL technicians, which the young participants used to analyze and verify energy consumption for different connected tools (such as a photovoltaic panel, an electric scooter, and a hydrogen-powered toy car).

“For years now, I have proudly declared my support for this project, which was conceived in 2021 by Luca Brami, the Councilor for Sustainable Development, and Dino Brancale, Managing Director of AVL Italia.” says Francesca Bedogni, the Mayor of Cavriago. “The Municipality of Cavriago, AVL Italia, and the Comprehensive Institute ‘Don Dossetti’ have collaboratively designed an innovative and engaging approach to education and guidance. AVL Green Camp received a special mention last year in the ‘Innovatori Responsabili 2023’ award from the Emilia-Romagna Region for its commitment to educating young people. We are on the right path, and we will continue to invest in this direction.”

“The participation and enthusiasm shown by the students make us proud,” says Dino Brancale, Managing Director of AVL Italia. “Thanks to the Municipality of Cavriago and everyone who helped make this fourth edition of the initiative possible. I believe that those working in the fields of science and technology have a duty to showcase the beauty and potential of these subjects to everyone, especially the younger generation. Investing in sustainability, ecological transition, and innovation also means actively educating the new generations to engage with these themes from an early age.”
