Facelift with Sustainability

Helmut List Halle in Graz

Neue Fassade für Helmut List Halle

The exterior and interior of the Helmut List Halle in Graz were modernized on a large scale: about 16 years after its opening, the hall was equipped with the most innovative photovoltaic façade system in Austria. Its northwestern side was given a new façade, and the stage technology was brought up to date with a modern chain hoist system. The modernization drive was completed on time a few days ago.

After months of planning, the most innovative photovoltaic façade system in Austria was constructed and installed in cooperation with the architectural office Pernthaler. Particularly noteworthy in this black façade solution are the individual module monitoring, the challenging substructure and the division into three partial areas. In close cooperation with all the professionals involved, this exclusive system was completed and put into operation in just three weeks.

The north-western side of the hall was also provided with a new façade. Not only does the attractive optical design make a significant contribution to improving the thermal properties, it also enables significant energy savings to be made when cooling the hall.

By installing a powerful chain hoist system (38 VarioLifte 1000kg), even complex scenic motion sequences can be achieved. Two security computers and an Internet remote access for remote maintenance purposes are the basis for one of the most modern systems in Austria.

The Helmut List Halle was opened in January 2003 as the result of building a bridge between science and art. Its goal is to synergistically combine acoustic know-how and artistic competence and harness scientific progress for the new challenges of cultural productions.
