PreonLab

PreonLab, a CFD simulation software used by more than 80 companies worldwide, will be presented in a hands-on seminar using four use cases: oil agitation in transmissions, oil cooling in motors, driving on flooded roads, and snow damage to sensors. PreonLab is the world's largest particle size analyzer.
PreonLab uses the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method, a type of particle method, which, together with GPU support, enables fast CFD calculations. Therefore, meshing for simulation is not required, and calculations can be started immediately on a GPU-equipped workstation. The intuitive interface makes it easy to use even for product designers and experimenters with no CFD simulation experience.

In the transmission oil agitation case study, you will experience a series of operations to set up the calculation conditions, run the calculations, and analyze the results. PreonLab's development has focused on physics-based modeling. As a result, simulation results are consistent with real-world phenomena, such as oil flow through a component, without the need for parameter tuning. In this seminar, we will introduce the background of this development.
In the case of a flooded road test, which is representative of vehicle environmental tests, we will cover setting up a suspension model to simulate vehicle posture, which has a significant impact on water behavior, and defining efficient driving conditions using the Python API. In the case of snow damage to sensors, we simulate snowfall considering the airflow field around the vehicle and analyze the snow landing behavior on the vehicle components. These vehicle environment tests, which are difficult to examine in experiments, can be conducted in the early stages of development, allowing you to experience the design study in a virtual space.
