AVL and Clemson University Unveil Newly Constructed ADAS/AD Test Cell To Deliver ADAS Feature Insights
- News
AVL is pleased to announce the first AVL DRIVINGCUBE™ in the United States is now operational at the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR). Research teams will leverage AVL’s system to advance virtual prototyping and digital engineering for autonomy-enabled ground vehicles as part of the University’s Virtual Prototyping of autonomy-enabled Ground Systems (VIPR-GS) center. Further details on the technology will be published in the upcoming week.
The VIPR-GS program supports the U.S. Army by developing technology roadmaps and providing simulation methods and tools for designing future autonomy-enabled ground vehicles with enhanced mobility, high modularity, improved energy efficiency, and smart management of resources.
“The AVL DRIVINGCUBE allows our researchers to perform complex ADAS/AD validation and verification tasks from the safety of a laboratory environment,” said Zoran Filipi, VIPR-GS Director and School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering Founding Director.. “We are able to test and verify unmanned maneuvers in the virtual environment, which help develop off-road vehicle technology for extreme conditions.”
The collaborators will debut the newly outfitted test cell at an Industry Day event in September 2023 at CU-ICAR. The experience will allow attendees to learn and view more about the AVL DRIVINGCUBE and how it seamlessly creates scenarios and the generation and execution of test cases in a virtual environment. Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the CU-ICAR facility and gain insight on advancements in autonomous vehicle technology in on-road and off-road vehicle applications.
Ben Strayer, Regional Business Manager - Software at AVL commented, “Our system is flexible, which allows us to enhance and build upon existing equipment with ease. With this solution, research teams and STEM student leaders can better understand and optimize connected and automated vehicle applications. Our team is looking forward to showcasing this solution at the Industry Day in the Fall.”
