Meet ChatSDT – An Overview

We are excited to introduce ChatSDT, our new AI customer support assistant for our Simulation Desktop. By embracing generative AI technology, ChatSDT aims to simplify user interactions, providing personalized advice and insights. This addition reflects our ongoing commitment to leveraging the latest technologies to improve user experience. Explore the benefits of ChatSDT, where innovative AI technology meets the trusted engineering expertise of AVL.
To embark on your journey with ChatSDT, simply start by selecting the ChatSDT action found in the Project → Help page and log in. Once you have started it, ChatSDT is ready to assist you with a variety of tasks.
Imagine needing to understand the intricacies of AVL Simulation Suite products, from AVL CRUISE™ M to AVL FIRE™ M. ChatSDT can walk you through their usage, providing detailed explanations and domain-specific knowledge tailored to your needs. It leverages a powerful language model to sift through AVL Simulation Suite documentation and other relevant materials, combining this information with its prior knowledge to deliver comprehensive responses. If something isn't clear, it will ask for clarification, ensuring you get the most relevant information.
- Per-Topic Conversations: ChatSDT's responses are influenced by the entire dialogue, making it beneficial to keep discussions topic-specific. For instance, if you are exploring different aspects of AVL EXCITE™ M, it is best to create separate conversations for each topic. This way, the AI can provide more focused and coherent answers.
- Progressive Query Narrowing: To get the best results, start with a broad question or statement and gradually narrow down your queries. This stepwise allows you to refine your questions based on the AI's responses, much like having a back-and-forth discussion with a human expert. You can even ask the AI to revisit earlier points in the conversation and take a different direction if needed. Figure 1 illustrates this technique in action, showing how you can progressively zoom in on specifics.
To showcase the versatility of ChatSDT, here are a few more usage ideas and examples.
Product Onboarding: For new users, ChatSDT offers a guided tour of our tools. Simply ask, "Can you give me a tour of Scenario Designer?" and ChatSDT will walk you through key features and functionalities. To get started quickly you could follow up with "How can I start using it?"
Exploring New Features: Imagine that you are curious about the latest updates in AVL IMPRESS™ M. Start a conversation with ChatSDT to explore these features. Begin with a general question like, "What are the new features in the latest version of IMPRESS M?" and then narrow down to specifics, such as "How do these features improve report quality?"
Finding the Right Example Project: If you would like a good starting point for your model, ChatSDT can point you to an appropriate example project. For example, prompting, "I need examples on optimizing BEV performance" will lead ChatSDT to suggest examples that showcase various related optimizations. See Figure 2 for another example.
Conversation Management
Users can easily create and delete conversations, ensuring that their workspace remains organized and focused on their current tasks. Conversations can be manually named or, for a more seamless experience, ChatSDT can automatically generate names based on the conversation's content. This feature helps in quickly identifying the conversation's focus at a glance. Furthermore, users have the flexibility to select and continue any previous conversation from the list, even while the AI is actively responding in another conversation. This multi-tasking capability ensures that you can efficiently manage multiple queries or tasks without losing context.
Interaction Tools
Users can easily copy the text of a message using the Copy action, or select a specific part of the message to copy using the familiar Ctrl+C shortcut. Additionally, during the AI's response generation, the Send button temporarily transforms into a Stop button, giving users control over the response process.
Feedback Mechanisms
Understanding the importance of user feedback in refining and improving ChatSDT, the tool incorporates two feedback options. After every response, users can express their satisfaction or dissatisfaction through simple thumbs up or down actions, providing immediate and clear feedback on the AI's performance. For more detailed feedback, users can start a message with a hash (#) to leave a feedback comment directly within the conversation. These comments are stored for review but are never sent to the AI, ensuring that user feedback is used constructively to enhance the experience.
Multi-language Support
ChatSDT breaks down language barriers by offering multi-language support, allowing users to interact with the AI in various languages. This feature ensures that assistance, relevant documentation, and guidance are accessible in the user's preferred language, enhancing understanding and efficiency. The AI is programmed to handle language transitions seamlessly, even within the same conversation, ensuring that users can switch languages as needed without disrupting the flow of information (see Figure 3). Importantly, ChatSDT is careful not to translate user interface references and other texts that are most useful in their original English format, preserving the integrity of technical terms and software functionality.
The introduction of ChatSDT represents a thoughtful step forward in enhancing how users engage with the AVL Simulation Suite. By integrating generative AI technology, ChatSDT simplifies the interactions and can significantly benefit users. It facilitates a range of tasks, from product familiarization for newcomers to deep dives into specific features for seasoned users.
