The future of large engines will take center stage at the AVL Large Engines TechDays conference on April 11 and 12 at the Helmut-List-Halle in Graz. The conference language is English. The theme of this year's conference, which AVL is organizing for the eighth time, is 'Electrification, New Fuels and Power Sources: Boom or Doom for Large Engines.' Top-level representatives from business and politics, such as Andreas Lippert (GE Jenbacher), Diethard Plohberger (Liebherr Components Colmar SAS) and Leif-Arne Skarbo (Bergen Engines AS) will be giving lectures.

There are a variety of factors which will be crucial to large engine applications over the next years: While a new chapter in engine efficiency has only just begun, global and local emission legislations are continuing to push the boundaries of traditional engine and transmission technologies as well as exhaust gas aftertreatment systems. Customers want robust and affordable solutions with maximum fuel flexibility – be it diesel, natural gas or renewable energies such as hydrogen. The particular challenge for maritime and mobile applications will be to seamlessly integrate internal combustion engines into overall systems, side by side with batteries, fuel cells and other energy sources.

Focus on new technologies and fuels

The two-day conference will address new technologies such as electrification, hybridization, new fuels and competitive power sources as well as on traditional engine development. In keynote speeches, renowned leaders in the field will be stating their view on emerging trends and electrification. Presentations and technical papers delivered by industry experts will address the various aspects of the topic. The event will end with the traditional panel discussion.

The AVL Large Engine Tech Days were established in 2004 as a forum for information, exchange and discussion for the large engine industry community, representing manufacturers, suppliers and users. The conference addresses decision makers as well as technical management and experts responsible for product development and innovation processes.
